India biotech also reduced the price of corona vaccine, states will get Covaxin for Rs 400 – Bharat Biotech has also slashed the price of corona vaccine after Serum Institute of India (SII). The company’s Covaxin will now be available to the states for Rs 400. Earlier, the company had said that it would sell ‘Kovaxin’ to state governments for Rs 600 and to private hospitals at a price of Rs 1,200 per dose. The Serum Institute on Wednesday also reduced the price of the Kovishield from Rs 400 to Rs 300 for the states.

From May 1, people above the age of 18 will be vaccinated in the country. The government had asked the Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech to reduce vaccine prices. Serum Institute of India (SII) announced its prices on April 21 after being allowed to sell the vaccine. The company had announced to sell ‘Kovishield’ to state governments at the rate of Rs 400 and to private hospitals at Rs 600 per dose. At the same time, the central government will continue to get the vaccine at the rate of Rs 150 per dose as per the earlier agreement. There was a lot of opposition across the country.

What did the company say?

The pressure on Bharat Biotech to reduce prices was also increased after the serum institute reduced the price of Kovishield. The company said in a statement that it is deeply concerned about the phase of the epidemic that the country is going through at the moment. In view of the huge challenges of the public health care system, the company has decided to give Rs 400 per dose of covaxin to the state governments. However, the company has not provided any information about the cost of the vaccine for private hospitals. That is, private hospitals will get it at the cost of Rs 1,200 per dose.

Earlier, the CEO of Serum Institute, Adar Poonawala had tweeted that the price of Covishield has been reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 300 per dose for the state governments. Private hospitals will get a dose of vaccine for Rs 600.

After fixing the price of Serum Institute, Bharat Biotech also fixed the price of its vaccine Covaxin. Private hospitals were getting the vaccine for Rs 12,00 and the state governments for Rs 600. But now the state governments will get cocaine for 400 rupees.
