NASA’s TESS Probe Discovers New Planet Named HD 21749B: Investigating NASA’s latest planet Hunting, TESS has discovered a new world outside our solar system, which is orbiting a dwarf star 53 km away. This is the third new planet confirmed by the Transition Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) since its launch in April last year. A planet named HD 21749b, in the constellation Reticulum, circling a bright, nearby dwarf star, about 53 light years away, and TESS appears to be the longest orbiting period of the three planets so far identified.

The surface of the new planet is likely to be around 300 degrees Fahrenheit – relatively quiet, given its proximity to its star, which is almost as bright as the sun.

HD 21749 B travels to its star 36 days in a relatively leisurely 36 days compared to two other planets – a Super-Earth with a Pi Mensae B, a 6.3-day orbit, and LHS 3844 B, a rocky world in its star. Another planet’s evidence?

Researchers have also detected evidence of another planet, orbiting a small, 7.8-day planetary system, although it is yet to be confirmed. If it is confirmed as a planet, then it can be the first Earth-shaped planet discovered by TESS.
