After this, the Brazilian government has decided to suspend this deal made with Bharat Biotech to buy 20 million Covaxins worth 324 million dollars, or more than 24.05 billion rupees.
Vaccine company Bharat Biotech has given a clarification amidst the ruckus about India’s indigenous corona vaccine Covaxin. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company said that the agreement with Brazil has been followed by a phased process, which took eight months. The company said that Covaxin has received emergency use approval in Brazil on June 24, 2021 and as of June 29, no advance payment has been made to the company nor has the vaccine been supplied by the company.
Said- Brazil had to pay $ 15 per dose
The company has said that the cost of Covaxin outside India is $15-20 per dose. Brazil also had to pay $15 per dose. Covaccine has been approved for emergency use in a total of 16 countries including Brazil, India, Philippines, Iran, Mexico. Apart from this, the process of getting it approved in 50 countries is going on.
President accused of corruption
Let us tell you that earlier on Tuesday, Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo announced the suspension of the Covaxin deal. According to the deal, Brazil had to buy a total of 20 million corona vaccine doses of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, but questions arose in Brazil regarding this deal. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been charged with corruption. The ruling government of Brazil was constantly surrounded by opposition parties. Cleanliness was also given by the government, but it did not make any difference.
Now that the matter has reached the Supreme Court of Brazil and the investigation of allegations of irregularities against the President has started, the Brazilian government has decided to suspend the deal. According to Brazilian media reports, the Covaxin purchase deal will remain suspended until the investigation is completed. However, it has been repeatedly claimed by the Ministry of Health of Brazil that there is no wrongdoing in this deal.
Allegations of irregularities in the deal
There have been allegations in the Covaxin purchase that a health ministry official from Brazil was pressurized to buy Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. President Jair was aware of this, but despite this he could not stop the deal and Brazil had to buy expensive Covaxin. Ever since the talk of disturbances regarding this deal in Brazil came to the fore, President Jair was the target of everyone. The parliamentary panel is also investigating about the management of Corona, in front of which this matter also came up.
