In the Pegasus case, the Supreme Court gave a setback to the central government and said that the Pegasus case will be investigated, the court has also constituted an expert committee for the investigation. The court said in this case that there was no clear stand of the central government. There should be an investigation into the violation of privacy. Delivering the verdict, CJI NV Ramana said that we have never shied away from protecting people from the violation of their fundamental rights. Privacy is not only for journalists and politicians, but it is also the right of common people. The petitions have raised concerns about how the technology can be used.

While freedom of the press is important, which is an important pillar of democracy, the security of journalists’ sources is also important. The court said that there were several reports in this matter in this case. In the matter, the court had issued a notice to the central government and sought its response. Technology is the best tool to improve life, we also believe that. He further said that the right to life and liberty is the highest, balance is also necessary in them. Objection to technology should be based on evidence. There should be no impact on the freedom of the press. They should have open sources of information. There should be no stop on them. At first we were not satisfied with the petitions filed on the basis of the report based on the news paper, but then the debate progressed. The Solicitor General had called such petitions beyond facts and motivated by wrong mindset.

Supreme Court puts Center in dock in Pegasus espionage case

The Supreme Court said that every citizen of the country should be protected from violation of their right to privacy. The Pegasus espionage charge is of major ramifications in nature. The court should find out the truth.

The court put the Center in the dock and said that raising national security concerns, the government cannot get free passes every time.

There is no universal ban against judicial review. The Center should have justified its stand here. The court should not have tried to be a mute spectator.

Despite giving repeated opportunities to the Centre, he gave a limited affidavit which was not clear. Had he clarified, the burden on us would have been less.

The court will not encroach on national security, but it will not make the court a mute spectator. There are allegations of involvement of foreign agencies, investigation should be done.
