Impact of Cyclone Yaas: Rain continues in many areas of Bengal-Odisha; hit tomorrow- After Hurricane Tauktae, the country is now facing the threat of cyclone Yas. It will hit Odisha and West Bengal beaches on Wednesday. Earlier, rains have started in many areas from today itself. It is raining today in Bhubaneswar, Chandipur in Odisha and Digha in Bengal. An alert has also been issued in Bihar and Jharkhand regarding the storm.

Yas has started becoming dangerous since Monday night. Due to this effect, there may also be rains in Medinipur, 24 Parganas and Hooghly in Bengal today. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had evacuated several areas of East Medinipur and Digha on Monday itself.

Winds can move at speeds up to 165 km per hour

Yas storms are expected to strike between Paradip and Sagar Island on Wednesday. This can cause winds at speeds up to 165 km per hour and waves up to 2 meters to 4.5 meters. The meteorological department says that yaas can be very dangerous before hitting the beach. After passing through the beach, it is expected to increase further by Wednesday afternoon.

6 districts of Odisha declared high-risk zone

Disaster relief teams are deployed in West Bengal and Odisha in view of the Yas storm. The Air Force and Navy also keep some of their helicopters and boats in reserve for relief work. Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Odisha have been declared high-risk zones due to the storm.

10 lakh people are being evacuated to safe places in Bengal

Due to the impact of Yas, winds in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly in West Bengal can be driven at a speed of 70-80 kmph on Wednesday. The northern and southern 24 Parganas are expected to have winds at a speed of 90 to 100 km per hour. These speeds can reach 120 kmph. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the state government is engaged in taking 10 lakh people to safe places. He says that the effect of Yas will be much greater than the storm of Amfan.

Heavy rains expected in many areas of Bihar

Bihar and Jharkhand have also been warned about the Yas storm. Meteorological Department Patna on Monday said that heavy rainfall could occur in many areas of the state in the next 2-3 days. The department has also issued an Orange Alert for 27 and 28 May. On the other hand, a red alert has been issued in Jharkhand about Yas. The southern and central areas of the state may receive heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday. NDRF teams have also been deployed in East Singhbhum and Ranchi districts.

Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparations on Monday in view of the cyclone Yas. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands attended this meeting through video conferencing. The Home Minister ordered senior officials to cooperate with the states in every possible way and discussed the evacuation of people from high-risk areas.
