Students of universities except the final year will be promoted without exam: UGC’s new guideline- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has currently left the decision on the examinations to the universities amid the outcry over the Corona transition. They will be able to take the examinations or decide to promote the students directly, given the local conditions. However, in the situation so far, most of the universities have started preparing to promote all the students in the next classes without exams except the final year. For this, the universities have made the basis of the guidelines set by the UGC for the examinations last year.

According to Dr. Rajneesh Jain, Secretary, UGC, universities are autonomous institutions. In such a situation, they have the right to take any decision at their level regarding examinations and academic sessions etc. The UGC says that the effect of corona infection is less and more in different parts of the country. In such a situation, no standard guideline has been prepared for examinations this time. In the meantime, universities have begun preparing to promote first and second-year students of graduation by awarding marks based on internal assessments or the previous year’s performance. Also, a plan is being made to conduct final year examinations in July-August. However, any decision regarding final year examinations will be taken after reviewing the condition of corona infection in the first week of June.
