Rishabh Pant Comes in as Cover for Injured Dhawan- Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been Playing for India in World Cup team in place of Shikhar Dhawan. Opting into Pant’s original team was a topic of discussion as he was in a fabulous form for the last one year. He will be there on Wednesday. He is reaching there a day before the match against New Zealand, but till the team management does not make a final decision about availability of the rest of the tournament, Pant cannot be included in the 15-man squad instead.

A BCCI official, who came to England on tour, told PTI, “On the request of team management, Rishabh Pant has been called from India as a cover. Pant performed impressively in the last one year. He also scored centuries in Test matches in England and Australia. Many former players, including Sunil Gavaskar, did not fit Dhawan and advised him to join Pant in the team. Dhawan has been out of three matches due to injury in the left-handed thumb. He was injured during a century against Australia.

Shikhar Dhawan became the hero of India’s victory by playing 117 off 109 balls against Australia on Sunday. Due to Nathan Coulter ball, Dhawan’s thumb was injured but he continued to play after the pain. Due to injury, he did not get to the field during the Australians innings and instead Ravindra Jadeja fielded them. He was scanned, after which the fracture was detected.

Will go as standby

Sources said that Rishabh is being called as a backup to England. He said, “We called Rishabh so that he can adapt to the circumstances. If Dhawan does not fit, then we will keep this thing in front of the ICC and Rishabh will be included in the team immediately after acceptance. ‘ For the latest updates, you can visit www.indiatimelines.com.

Dhawan injured in India-Australia match

In India’s last match against Australia in the World Cup, Dhawan was hit by a left-handed thumb on the ball of fast bowler Pat Cummins. In this match, Dhawan played a key role in winning the century against Australia.
