Jio DTH effect

Jio DTH effect: Since Reliance launched Jio in 2016, the telecommunications company is constantly trying to disrupt the industry with aggressive pricing and launch. After Jio’s commercial services began, the company entered the mobile phone segment with its smart phone’s very affordable JioPhone range. In 2019, the company is rolling out in DTH and broadband space. And as always, the arch-rival Airtel came up with another strategy to replenish Jio DTH’s market by discovering opportunities for the merger.

Jio DTH effect, Airtel Digital TV may rule the DTH market with 61% Share

In the latest report of ET Telecom, it has been said that Bharti Airtel has started negotiations with Dish TV to merge under its Airtel digital TV service. Airtel’s market share in DTH space is 24 percent, while Dish TV’s share is 37 percent. Upon joining, Airtel could rule the market with a share of 61 percent. It will be the world’s only operator to offer TV service on such a large scale to Airtel Digital TV

A person who knows about the merger said that the talks are at an exploratory level. The idea has to strengthen operations and Reliance Jio has to give tough competition. However, Airtel denied comment on the matter. As a policy, we do not comment on market speculation, an Airtel spokesperson said.

This is not the first time Airtel is trying to include any third party in its television service. Earlier, Airtel had negotiated a deal with Tata Sky to sell its business, but the deal never finalized. Later, Airtel sold shares from its parent company to third-party buyers. Jio DTH Effect, The purpose of the merger is to fight Jio’s DTH service, which is expected to come up with an aggressive pricing model. Jio has already bet on the DEN network along with Hathway Cable and Datacom. There is a considerable presence in the DTH industry with the strong local network of these two operators. However, with Jio reaching its own range of Jio Apps, Jio hopes to club its DTH service with the GigaFiber broadband service. GigaFiiber has already been launched in select cities and Jio is offering a preview where people can participate in the beta test for three months and get complimentary access to 100GB data at speeds of 100Mbps.

If the merger goes forward, it will be interesting to see the fight between Airtel and Reliance. If economical pricing is an important factor, then it is the consumer who will be most profitable.
