The onset of the new year 2024 has commenced, with the month of Poush currently underway. Traditionally, the conclusion of the Poush month marks the beginning of festive celebrations, often accompanied by the melodious tunes of wedding processions. In cultural contexts, weddings hold significant importance, with auspicious timing, or “shubh muhurat,” considered paramount. According to astrological beliefs, conducting a marriage without an auspicious moment is deemed inauspicious.

This year, due to the positioning of Jupiter, there is a scarcity of auspicious moments for weddings in the month of Vaishakh. Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, a renowned astrologer at the Mudgal Astrology Center in Devghar’s Pagal Baba Ashram, disclosed that the year began with the month of Poush, during which no religious or auspicious ceremonies are typically conducted. Consequently, weddings are scheduled to commence only after the conclusion of the Poush month, when auspicious moments become available. However, due to the occurrence of Kharmas and Jupiter’s retrogression, auspicious timings are limited this year.

For instance, after March and April, there is a month-long period of Kharmas. Furthermore, in May and June, weddings are hindered by Jupiter’s retrogression, resulting in a dearth of auspicious moments for matrimonial ceremonies. Consequently, individuals planning to tie the knot in 2024 must carefully consider the astrological implications and consult experts to identify the most propitious timings for their weddings.

Here are the auspicious wedding dates for 2024:

January 2024: 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31.

April 2024: 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26.

July 2024: 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17.

November 2024: 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, and 25.

From a religious perspective, Kharmas are considered inauspicious, leading to a prohibition on conducting any auspicious or significant ceremonies during this period. Kharmas typically last for around 30 days, during which activities such as housewarming ceremonies, purchasing new vehicles or property, weddings, head-shaving ceremonies, sacred thread ceremonies, first rice feeding ceremonies, and starting new ventures are avoided.
