The court allowed the police remand with certain conditions. On the other hand, the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra has called a statewide bandh today in protest against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena have appealed to all to join the bandh on their own free will. In the second FIR registered in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, it has been said that ‘bad elements’ present among the protesters opposing the farming laws attacked BJP workers in SUVs. In Assam, the opposition Congress observed a silent fast in protest against the recent violence at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. Terming the protest as the party’s attempt to “save democracy”, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Bora said, “Law cannot be different for VVIPs and common citizens. The minister’s son has to surrender. No attempt was made to arrest till date.”
The main accused in the Lakhimpur violence, Ashish Mishra, is to appear in the court shortly where the police will demand his remand. In view of this, security has been tightened outside Lakhimpur Court. On the other hand, Congress is protesting silently in Lakhimpur.
